Hendrick Automotive Group Helps Second Harvest Food Bank Fight Student Hunger This Summer

July 1st, 2019 by

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina has been at the forefront of fighting student hunger throughout the summer months. While many are enjoying vacation, the pool or outdoor activities, others are wondering where their next meal may be coming from. During the year, schools are able to assist by serving breakfast and lunch, but during the summer, the need still exists to feed young people and their families.

Through the logistical and relationship support of the Second Harvest Food Bank team, Hendrick Automotive Group joined many other partners to provide needed funds to help fight hunger during the summer months. According to Second Harvest Food Bank, there are nearly 180,000 children living in – or at – the poverty line within the 19 Charlotte-area communities the food bank supports.

Throughout the summer, Hendrick Automotive Group teammates are also helping pack meals and distributing non-perishable items, getting food to families who could go without.

WSOC-TV talked about the program.

Second Harvest Food Bank invited Hendrick Automotive Group to participate in their annual summer meal drive kick off media event. Many members of the media joined the event, like WBTV-TV, who put together two in-depth pieces that placed a spotlight on the problem of hunger.

Spectrum News Charlotte also sent a team out to cover the event. These were their two stories, which ran over two days of scheduled local coverage.
