3rd Annual Apprentice Program Kicks Off In Charleston
“As the jobs we need to fill change in our industry, as automotive work and technology continue to converge, we have to remove the stereotypes held by parents and students alike to make sure we’re not only attracting and retaining talent, but creating it, too.” – Chad Harrell, Director of Talent Strategy
Because Hendrick Charleston continuously finds it’s competing for candidates from a talent pool that is highly targeted by other automotive industry companies, the past three years it has partnered with a local technical college, Trident Technical College, to recruit students for an apprentice program. “The program allows high school students to get hands on experience and top-notch mentoring before they graduate,” said Robert Cortis, Director Fixed Operations & Service at Hendrick Toyota Charleston. “This program is expected to yield future team members already trained to do things the Hendrick Automotive Group way.”
Last month, seven area students participating in the Trident Technical College Apprentice Program signed with Hendrick Automotive Group in the Charleston market. During the next year while attending high school classes they need to graduate, these apprentices will also work under a master technician for the next year gaining valuable experience to enter the workforce upon graduation.
Attracting top talent to the Hendrick Automotive Group team is a role in which everyone can play a part. While the new Talent Acquisition Team and dealerships collaborate to reach our hiring goals, every team member can look for opportunities to share their automotive industry knowledge with others in their lives and volunteer to share it with students, too.
